It is with great sadness that Ditton Parish Council announces the passing of Cllr Anthony (Tony) Robert Mulcuck (1933–2026), who very sadly passed away in the early hours of Monday, 26 October 2026, aged 93.
Tony served as a parish councillor for over 55 years, having first joined the Council in May 1971. During that remarkable period of service, he contributed to every committee and at various times chaired both the Planning and Open Spaces Committees. His commitment to the parish and its residents was unwavering and he took great pride in standing up for the village and speaking out on matters he believed were important to the community.
Tony was a tireless campaigner and a familiar voice at public meetings, where he represented the views of many residents with conviction and determination. He was involved in many aspects of village life and was known for his energy, drive and dedication. He played an active role in the formation of Ditton and Malling Active Retirement Association [DAMARA] and continued to be involved in all the activities. Tony was also instrumental in the formation of both Ditton Bowls Club and Ditton Short Mat Bowls.
Tony was a forerunner in helping to establish Ditton Heritage Centre and Victorian Classroom and remained committed throughout his life to preserving the history of the village and bringing people together. He was also closely involved in village events over many years, including village fun days, the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, and Remembrance Sunday, for which he ensured that Armistice Day was properly observed by personally organising a short service.
Tony was passionate about Ditton’s open spaces, trees and nature reserve and he continued to take a keen interest in their development and care.
For those who had the privilege of working alongside him, Tony was a fountain of knowledge, always willing to share his experience and guidance. His presence at council meetings will be greatly missed, and his dedication, wisdom and legacy will be remembered with gratitude and affection by all who knew him.
On behalf of the Parish Council, our sincere condolences are extended to Maralyn and all of Tony’s family and friends at this very sad time. Details of the public memorial service will be shared in due course. In the meantime, flowers may be placed at Tony’s bench on Ditton Corner Memorial by anyone wishing to pay their respects.
