ONCE
again it has been an eventful year with much achieved and I would
like to take this opportunity to thank the people of Ditton for their
support during 2007.
The Annual Bonfire and Fireworks was once again a great success and
very well attended. I extend grateful thanks to Bryant Homes, who
kindly sponsored this year’s event. I also want to say a huge thank
you to all the volunteers and staff who worked so hard to make it
such a great evening out.
The Remembrance Day services were also extremely well attended. It
is an important event in the parish calendar and a time for us all
to remember and give grateful thanks to those who gave, and continue
to give, their lives for us.
I sincerely thank all those people who helped with organising this
year’s services and those who took part.
On behalf of the members of Ditton Parish Council, we look forward
to serving you during 2008 and we wish you all the complements of
the season and a prosperous 2008. |
THE
Christmas season is now upon us and here in the parish office we
are busy putting together the budgets for 2008/2009 and also preparing
for the ever popular Christmas and New Year’s Eve Dances. If you
have never attended one of the parish council dances before, why
not give it a try. You can be assured of a great time with a wide
variety of music provided by professional orchestras and bands.
If you do not want to dance you can always sit and watch the dancers
and listen to the music. You can even walk home afterwards, so no
worries about drinking and driving.
We hold a mailing list for the dances and if you would like to be
included on the list to receive prior notice of the dances, please
call into the parish office and collect a form. People on the mailing
list who live in Ditton have priority in reserving tickets. A list
of forthcoming dances during 2008 is included in this edition.
On behalf of all the parish council staff, I wish you a very Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year and we look forward to serving you
during 2008. |

Police
Watch
PC Matt Roddick, the neighbourhood
police officer for Ditton, brings you the latest local policing
news in the run up to Christmas. Police are targeting the area with
several campaigns to reduce crime.
New
campaign to reduce shed and garage break-ins
POLICE are clamping down on criminals targeting shed, garage and
outbuilding break-ins across the area, particularly in rural locations.
These buildings are particularly vulnerable in the overnight hours.
An increased police presence in the area is ongoing at the time
of wrting.
The following crime prevention advice may be useful to local residents.
If anyone has useful information please contact myself or Kent Crimestoppers
free and anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Sheds, garages and outbuildings should always be properly secured
with a good quality lock and where possible, an alarm.
The property within these outbuildings should be security marked
with the owner’s house number and postcode, and details of specific
makes, models, serial numbers etc., should be recorded and stored
safely.
For larger and more distinctive items, it is quite useful to take
photographs to keep with the other details already mentioned.
Implement security lighting in usually dark areas, as thieves do
not want to be seen and do not want to draw any attention to themselves.
Winter
campaign for Kent Police
KENT Police starts its Safer Winter campaign on December 17 to encourage
people to look after themselves and their property during the winter
and also ensure they take proper precautions on the road.
Take
a minute to check your car and remember, winter driving needs extra
care
REGULARLY check lights, tyres and fluid levels; add anti-freeze
to your radiator and windscreen bottle.
Adapt your driving for winter road conditions - in the wet, fog
and ice stay well back from the car in front.
Drinking and using hand held mobiles while driving don't mix - a
conviction can affect the rest of your life, a collision can
ruin someone else's.
Remember,
all drivers involved in a collision will be tested for alcohol and
drugs.

Christmas
refuse collections
THIS
year, following requests from a number of residents, Tonbridge and
Malling Borough Council’s green waste collection service will
continue, where possible, throughout the Christmas and New Year
period.
There are some changes to collections over the festive season, however,
and these are listed below:
Monday
collections
There are no changes to services over the Christmas and New Year
period.
Tuesday collections
There will be no collections in the week starting December 24. Those
properties that were due a black bin collection in the week starting
December 24 will have the green-lidded bin service suspended
for two cycles. This will ensure that you do not go for more
than 15 days without a black bin collection. The service will re-start
on Tuesday, January 15.
Additional waste will be collected with the black bin on Wednesday,
January 2. Please note this is one day later than usual.
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday collections
All services will run one day late in the weeks commencing 24 and
31 December.
