The Primrose (Primula vulgaris) is a small plant and produces flowers which generally vary in colour
from pale cream to deep yellow
|
As soon as the first primroses open, look out for bee-flies (Bombylius major). Fast-moving with furry abdomens and mimicking bees they have a long rigid proboscis, designed for probing tubular flowers for nectar. They breed in the nests of mining bees, where they eat the bees' grubs and pollen stores. |

Hedgehogs (Erinaceus europaeus) come out of hibernation. Increasing urbanisation and ‘tidier’ gardens are pushing hedgehogs out from the places
where most of us live. |
Wasps wake up.
